ADI Dance Teacher Feature: Meet Bian!
At American Dance Institute, our instructors are the heartbeat of our studios. For this edition of our ADI Dance Teacher Feature, we are thrilled to spotlight Bian, who teaches Ballet, Creative Dance, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and Contemporary across our Greenwood, Wedgwood, and Shoreline locations.
Bian grew up dancing in the Bay Area, CA, and earned her BA in Communication Studies from CSU Long Beach while pursuing the Dance Minor. She has taught for over 13 years and brings a strong passion for education to every class. Her training spans Jazz, Street Jazz, Contemporary, Musical Theater, Dance Cardio, Ballet, and Intro to Dance, and at ADI she currently teaches Ballet, Creative Dance, Jazz, Musical Theater, and Contemporary.

- Teaching Children's Beginning Ballet II & III and Jr/Teen Beginning Jazz on Wednesdays in Greenwood, followed by Adult/Teen Beginning Ballet I in the evening.
- Teaching Adult Beginning Ballet I and Adult Musical Theater on Thursdays in Shoreline.
- Teaching Adult Beginning Musical Theater and Adult Beginning Contemporary on Fridays in Wedgwood.

Q&A Corner with Bian
Q: What is your favorite part about teaching at ADI?A: "I love how inclusive and kind everyone is at the studio! ADI has a very welcoming environment, making it a great place to teach. I love to be somewhere that feels like home!"
Q: What first drew you to dance growing up in the Bay Area?A: "I used to watch Britney Spears music videos on repeat and learn the dances, so much so that my parents put me in a jazz/hip-hop combo class when I was 6! I haven't stopped dancing since!"
Q: What styles or training shaped you most before you started teaching?A: "My grade school and high school dance programs really shaped the type of dancer I am today! While training through those programs, I began training at traditional studios (Dance Arts Center and Melodic Remedy Dance Studio). I finished my dance training with CSU Long Beach, where I trained through their dance minor program while obtaining my BA in Communication Studies."
Q: What draws you to teaching such a wide range of styles rather than specializing in one?A: "My competitive nature pushed me down that route. I wanted to be a well-rounded dancer to ensure that I could professionally perform and teach to the best of my ability. Plus, every style of dance is so fun!"
Q: Any performance background, or has your focus always been on teaching?A: "Yes, I began booking professional dance jobs around the age of 23/24. I have been in commercials and performed with varying cabaret and burlesque troupes for the last 5 years. I plan to continue my performance work alongside my teaching!"
Q: What do you love about working with such a wide age range, from Pre-Ballet all the way up to Adult/Teen classes?A: "I love working with anyone who is excited to dance! It's really beautiful to see that same desire to learn and dance from toddlers all the way to teens and adults. I believe dance is timeless and stays with a person, no matter the age. I also believe it's never too late to learn!"
Outside of the studio, Bian has two dogs and a cat, and loves to read, bake, explore outdoors, travel, and listen to music. A fun fact about her: she's allergic to both pineapple and mango!
