ADI's School Orientation Information

Hello Dancers,

I am so happy to have you all as part of our ADI family! Thank you for your business. I am eternally grateful for your support as we weather these unprecedented times. Please take a few minutes to read through the following letter to facilitate an easy acclimation to life at ADI.

CLASS INFORMATION

MISSED CLASSES: If you miss a class you are welcome to schedule a makeup class in any same level class at any location. Makeups must be done before the end of the season session you are enrolled in. If makeups cannot be scheduled due to conflicts you may request a credit for missed classes.

DRESS CODES: Here is our dress code pageAttire can be purchased at Centerstage Capezio, located at 5261 University Ave NE Seattle 98105, or online at discountdance.com and please use school code TP120018. Hair should be pulled back in a ponytail if it will fit, or a bun for ballet classes.

SWAP BOX: We have a swap box of outgrown ballet slippers, tap and jazz shoes, dress code class leotards, and tights at our Greenwood and Shoreline locations. If you are in need of dance wear, call or email the office to let us know what you're looking for. If there is something in the box that should fit you or your dancer, we will set it aside for you. There is no cost associated with the swap, and you don’t have to put something in to take something out. If it fits, it’s up for grabs. We welcome your donations as well. Reduce, reuse, recycle - it’s good for the planet and good for our pockets.

PERFORMANCES: We are hopeful that in-person performances opportunities will be able to resume soon. ADI does in-house recitals for our Creative and Pre-level programs in June and an informal watch day at the end of January/beginning of February. For live-streamed classes, these watch days will happen via Zoom. There is no additional cost associated with our in-house recitals. For in-studio performances and class observations, we set up chairs in the studio for you to watch your child’s class up close and personal, take pictures, videos, etc. Dancers enrolled in our Children’s and Junior/Teen classes have the option to perform in a mixed program in June held at Ballard High School Auditorium. Many of our adult and upper level students also have the option to perform several times a year in various neighborhood events including Phinneywood ArtWalk, visits to senior centers in the area, Greenwood Seafair Parade, and more.

IN-STUDIO CLASS LOCATIONS

Greenwood

OUR FACILITY: We have two studios in the same building. Studio #1’s address is 8001 Greenwood Ave N; Studio #2’s address is 8007 Greenwood Ave N. Dancers use the back doors of the building to gain entrance to each studio so we can keep street shoes off the dance floor. There is a parent viewing area in the back of each studio. Each studio has a restroom on the main floor. There are cubbies for the dancers to put their street shoes. The office is in the small, detached building behind the studios. There is an additional restroom and changing rooms in the office. If you have not been to our facility before, please come to the office when you arrive and one of my office staff can show you around and get you situated.

PARKING: There is a small gravel parking area behind the studio which can accommodate five cars. It can accommodate small to mid-size vehicles only so as not to block passage through the alley. If you don’t snag a spot in back, there is street parking on both sides of Greenwood Ave N, on N 81st Street, and on N 80th Street along St. John school. When you park on the street, we also ask that you park smart. If we all do our part, we can mitigate our parking impact on the residents of our wonderful neighborhood. If parking is tough and no one is behind you, you can also pull into the alley and give a shout to my office staff. We can escort your child to class while you go find parking. We call it Ballet Valet!

Magnolia

OUR FACILITY: Our Magnolia facility is located at 2410 32nd Ave W, Seattle, WA 98199, just a few doors down from the Hardware store. Dancers should enter through the back door off of the alley. There is a small parking area in back, and there is plenty of on street parking.

Wedgwood

OUR FACILITY: The address is 7500 25th Ave NE Suite 1, Seattle, WA 98115. Our studio will be at the corner of 75th NE and 25th Ave NE in Wedgwood. Across from the Shell gas station. Were only 1 block away from Dahl Playfield!

PARKING: There are four ADI marked spaces in the parking lot of our building. If you do not find an ADI spot, please do not park in front of the other businesses. We encourage using street parking. Dahl Playfield is a short walk away (1 block), their parking lot is a good option if you cannot find other parking.

Shoreline

OUR FACILITY: The address is 1240 NE 175th St. Suite C, Shoreline WA, 98155. Our parking lot in front of the building is between Europa Car Repair and Peking Palace. We have two studios in the same building. Enter through the Suite C doors and go up the stairs to the second floor. There is a parent viewing area between the studios as well as restrooms. There are cubbies for the dancers to put their street shoes and dance bags. The office is located on the music school side of the building (Suite D). Please enter from the outside Suite D entrance to reach the office. If you have not been to our facility before, please come to the office when you arrive and one of my office staff can show you around and get you situated.

PARKING: We have ample parking in the lot in front of the building!

I promise the quality of your classes will be superb!

CLASS CHECK IN: You will receive a zoom link to your registered class an hour before your class is scheduled to start. The link will be password protected and the password will be included in the email with the zoom link. If you have any issues with the link or the password, please email the office rather than phoning us. Our onsite support staff may be in the studio facilitating operations for our teaching staff and hence, may be away from the phone. But we have staff working remotely that can assist you if you email them adiseattle@americandanceinstitute.com for Greenwood and Magnolia classes or adishoreline@americandanceinstitute.com for Shoreline and Wedgwood classes.

DANCE SPACE:

  • In their class planning, our teachers do take into account the fact that the student’s space will likely be limited. However, you do want to try and find an open area in your home where you have at least some room to move. This might require moving a piece of furniture or rolling up an area rug.
  • Ballet students, find something that can serve as your barre (the back of a chair, a counter, a desk, or even just a light touch on the wall can work too. If you have the space, you can also purchase small portable ballet barres at this link
  • Tap students – If you don’t have a hard wood floor you can work on, consider buying a piece of plywood to dance on or you can also purchase small portable dance floors for use at home at this link.

Thanks again for patronage.

Warm Regards,

Elizabeth Chayer, Director
