Shoreline School Orientation Letter

Hello Shoreline Parents and Dancers,

Welcome to American Dance Institute’s 2019-2020 season of classes. I am so happy to have you all as part of our ADI family! Fall classes begin September 16, 2019, check our school calendar for other important dates.  Please take a few minutes to read through the following letter to facilitate an easy acclimation to life at ADI.

Fall Session is September 16, 2019 - February 9, 2020
Winter/Spring Session is February 10, 2020 - June 18, 2020

OUR FACILITY:

The address is 1240 NE 175th St. Suite C, Shoreline WA, 98155. Our parking lot in front of the building is between Europa Car Repair and Peking Palace.

We have two studios in the same building. Enter through the Suite C doors and go up the stairs to the second floor. There is a parent viewing area between the studios as well as restrooms. There are cubbies for the dancers to put their street shoes, sweaters, backpacks, dance bags, etc. The office is located on the music school side of the building (Suite D). Please enter from the outside Suite D entrance to reach the office.  If you have not been to our facility before, please come to the office when you arrive and one of my office staff can show you around and get you situated.

PARKING:

We have ample parking and we have a lovely viewing area in the parent waiting room if you would like to watch your child’s class.

DRESS CODES:

You can find the dress code required for classes here. Attire can be purchased online through Discount Dance Supply (Discount code: TP120018). Attire can also be purchased at Centerstage Dance Shop: 5261 University Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105.

SWAP BOX:

We have a swap box of outgrown ballet slippers, ghillies, tap, jazz shoes, class leotards, and tights. We typically get a lot of kid sizes, and sometimes adult sizes too. Feel free to check for items you need, or borrow them if you forget something. We would love your donations if you or your kids outgrow/no longer need the attire. There is no cost associated with the swap, and you don’t have to put something in to take something out. If it fits, it’s up for grabs. We just ask that you donate it back when your done with it. Reduce, reuse, recycle–it’s good for the planet and good for your pockets.

MISSED CLASSES:

We understand you are bound to miss a class or two over the semester. We ask that you please let us know of a planned absence–otherwise you will receive an email inquiring if all is okay because we care about you. You are welcome to make up any missed classes in another age/level appropriate class within the session that it is missed. Missed classes cannot be carried over to the next session. If you know you are going to miss class because of a prior commitment, you can make the class up ahead of time if you like. Please let the office know your intent to make up a class so we can give the instructor a heads up to expect you or your child.

PERFORMANCES:

ADI does in-house recitals for our Creative and Pre-level programs in June and an informal watch day at the end of January/beginning of February. There is no additional cost associated with our in-house recitals. For studio performances and class observations, we set up chairs in the studio for you to watch your child’s class up close and personal, take pictures, videos, etc.

Our Children’s and Junior/Teen students have the option to perform in a mixed program in June held at Ballard High School Auditorium.

Many of our adult and upper level students also have the option to perform several times a year in various neighborhood events including Phinneywood Art Walk, visits to senior centers in the area, Greenwood Seafair Parade, and more.

SPECIAL GUESTS:

If you have special guests visiting, but it is not an official watching or performance week, please let us know. We are happy to set up some chairs in the studio for you and your out of town guests.
