 What, Where, When:

Saturday, September 16, 2023: Modern Dance session will be held in Wedgwood from10:00am-2:00pm

This workshop is designed to give the time to dig into warm-up, technique, and flow in away a class doesn’t have the time. We’ll begin on the floor with a gentle warm up and progress into some heart pumping core work and strengthening. Simple technique exercises will give us the opportunity to find ease and strength. We’ll progress to large movements across the floor that encourage balance and a sense of groove!

Part two of the workshop will have us explore a movement phrase, working to learn, retain and refine the steps over the course of the session. There will be an opportunity for feedback and observing classmates to create a full experience of learning, doing and witnessing. This phrase will encourage flow and fun, pairing sweeping movement with small articulations and play.

Part three of the workshop will dive a bit more into the anatomy and kinesiology that provides the foundations of dance. We will look at some of the important areas for dancers to train and practice some gentle exercises to build strength and flexibility. There will be an opportunity here for attendees to inquire about specific challenges or injuries they may be managing.

Sunday, September 17, 2023: Ballet Session will be held in Wedgwood from 10:00am-2:00pm

This workshop is designed to give the time to dig into technique, musicality, and flow in a way that class doesn’t have the time. We will begin with a gentle off barre warmup that encourages us to bring awareness to the whole body. We will progress through barre, working to bring heat to the body as well as give the mind time to process and synthesize information. We will move to the center and call upon strength, balance and a sense of ease to complete exercises free of the support of the barre and moving through space.

Part two of this workshop will see us approach a classical variation to learn and develop. We will observe the variation on film, and then work to learn the full scope of it. Through this practice, we challenge our brains to learn quickly, as well as our bodies to bring our technique to new material. There will be an opportunity for feedback and observing classmates to create a full experience of learning, doing and witnessing.
